Testimonials - Prostate Cancer Treatment

11/3/07

"First two days after procedure I felt pretty good. Some pain with urination and trouble with bowel movements. Third day was tired and had flu like symptoms. Also had indigestion problems. Figured out after a couple of days needed to eat when taking Phenazopyridine. Had little trouble after that with indigestion. On 5 th day tried to take a mile walk. Had to stop half way and rest. Did same thing on 7th day and made it the whole mile, tired but stronger. Played golf on 10th day, was short of breath on occasion but played fair. 12th day played again did much better. 15th and 16th day played golf both days was pretty tired after the second day and rested a lot the next day. I am not fully recovered, feel a lot weaker since procedure, have continued to have runny nose and a lot of mucus in throat etc. Still some sensitivity in head of penis and when having bowel movements Have urgency on occasion especially with running water. Have to get up three to four times a night to urinate".

"After 11/3 I started feeling stronger each day. I got up to walking 2 miles at a time and I played golf twice a week. My side effects were getting better. No problem at all when I was active. I visited Dr. Mitchell on 11/12 and all seemed well. I was having some side effects from the Flomax and he prescribed Euroxatrill instead. The next day while getting ready to play golf in the A.M. I reached way over and put my hand up my shorts to scratch my groin. I straightened up and walked quickly about 4 steps and the room started spinning on me. Later that day I went to the emergency room and found I had a stroke. The artery on the right back of my neck had broken. They placed me on Cumadin and took me off Alieve and placed me on Celebrex to reduce the chance of bleeding. I was in the hospital from 11/13 until released on 11/19. The only problem I had was my equilibrium. I am now walking and talking all right, I have strength in my arms and legs. My balance has already improved greatly. I still am not allowed to drive or lift anything over 20 lbs. I am seeing my neurologist on 12/4 and hope to be allowed to drive at that time. I was off flomax and aleive for several days while I was in the hospital and increasingly had urgency and frequency problem. Since I have been home and on,the Eurexatrol and Celebrex these side effects have started to improve. I notice that these are not a problem as long as I am up and moving."

"Back to walking 1 mile each day and light household duties plus driving now. Urine flow is improving. Less pain while urinating. Bowel movements are now easy. Only getting up once per night to go to bath room. I assume Prostate is shrinking. Starting External Radiation next week. Hope this does not bring back the original symptoms."

"Completed 22 days of 28 days of radiation. Side effects of urination problems and bowel movements have increased as the days go along. Find that I have much less stamina than I usually have. When I work or exercise, I have to rest much more often. (Feel like an OLD MAN). Have been told by doctors that most of these side effects should be resolved in 4 to 6 weeks. I try to remain active with walking, some light weight-work, yard work and house work. All and all, no major problems with treatment. Looking forward to end of treatment, only 6 more days. Still restricted from drinking beer and playing golf due to previous stroke. To see Neurologist on 1/30/08. Feel like effects of stroke have dissipated. Hope to be able to resume normal activity by 3/1/08. "

"It has been 7 days since my last radiation treatment. On my last visit with the doctor I told him I was having problems with a rash and itchiness all over my body. Showed him the rash on my legs. He said it was not caused by radiation and appeared to be an allergic reaction. Told him that Benadril was helping. After my last treatment I read the side effects from my medicines Uroxatral and Celebrex. The instructions indicated that if I had a rash, to discuss it with my doctor. So I stopped taking the Uroxatra1 and my itching stopped. After the second day I was having to urinate almost every hour at night and having more problems with control. ( I have found that running water or getting up after sitting down for a long time increased this problem) I then went on Uroxatral again and had the same problem with extreme itchiness. Quit again 2 days ago, had same problem the first night but last night only had to get up 2 times during the night. Have also been off Amodium AD for last 3 days and bowel movements have been near normal Hope, I Will be of these medications completely in the near future. I also have seen several small black specks in my urine the last couple of days. ( maybe this is some of the seeds that I am passing.) My Blood Sugar increased the last few days of my Radiation treatment. It appears to be going down the last couple of days."

"Have: been able to play golf and exercise regularly. Still have a little control problems and frequency problems. Running water and movement after being still for a while effects my control. No problem when active. Example, can control and hold urination up to 4 hours when playing golf. Still not on medication. Each day symptoms seem to lessen. Will see Dr. Mitchell on 2/15, hope to have results from PSA shortly thereafter."

"I seem to be getting stronger but still have a ways to go. Having very little problems with my urination and bowel movements. Now up to playing golf twice a week and exercising regularly. Had PSA test on 2/15. Got results today (less than .01)Very happy with results". - Lawrence F. Schuchart
